biological activity | Marein has a neuroprotective effect by reducing the damage to mitochondrial function and the activation of AMPK signaling pathway. Marein promotes glucose uptake through CaMKK/AMPK/GLUT1, increases glycogen synthesis through IRS/Akt/GSK-3β, and reduces Gluconeogenesis through Akt/FoxO1, thereby improving high glucose-induced insulin resistance in HepG2 cells. Marein is an HDAC inhibitor with an IC50 of 100 μm. Marein has beneficial antioxidant, antihypertensive, hypolipidemic and antidiabetic effects. |
